OpenAI has launched GPT-5.4, a frontier model that folds its latest advances in reasoning, coding and agentic workflows into a single system. The model was released on March 5, 2026.

Variants and availability

OpenAI initially shipped two variants, GPT-5.4 Thinking and GPT-5.4 Pro, neither available to free-tier users. On March 17 the company followed up with GPT-5.4 mini — accessible to free-tier users — and GPT-5.4 nano, offered only through the OpenAI API.

What it improves

GPT-5.4 incorporates the coding strengths of GPT-5.3-Codex while improving how the model works across tools, software environments and professional tasks such as spreadsheets, presentations and documents. It adds built-in computer use and stronger deep-research capabilities. On the reliability front, OpenAI reported a 33% reduction in factual errors compared with GPT-5.2.
