The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced two new citizen-centric features on its RajmargYatra mobile app—the Digital Local Pass and the MargMitra Help Centre—to make highway travel more convenient and reduce the need for physical visits to toll plazas. The new services enable eligible commuters to purchase local toll passes online and access multilingual assistance for FASTag, toll, and highway-related services through a single digital platform.

The initiative is part of NHAI’s broader push to digitize highway services, simplify toll management, and improve grievance redressal for millions of National Highway users across India. Initially launched at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), the Digital Local Pass facility will be expanded to additional toll plazas nationwide in the coming months.

NHAI Launches Digital Local Pass

The new Digital Local Pass allows eligible residents living near selected toll plazas to purchase their monthly local toll pass directly through the RajmargYatra app without visiting the toll plaza.

Eligible users can now complete the entire process digitally within minutes, eliminating paperwork and manual verification.

Paperless Verification Through Government Platforms

Instead of requiring commuters to submit physical documents at toll plazas, NHAI has integrated the application process with existing government digital infrastructure.

The verification process includes:

  • User consent before accessing records.
  • Address verification through DigiLocker.
  • Vehicle details fetched from the VAHAN database.
  • Linked FASTag verification.
  • GIS-based location verification to confirm residence within the eligible 20 km radius.

This automated workflow is designed to improve transparency while significantly reducing processing time.

Rollout Plans

NHAI has confirmed that the Digital Local Pass facility has initially been introduced at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza in Delhi and will be gradually expanded to eligible toll plazas across India.

The authority is encouraging commuters to download the RajmargYatra app to access a growing range of digital highway services, including annual passes, FASTag management, route planning, and emergency assistance.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the Digital Local Pass and MargMitra Help Centre marks another step in NHAI’s efforts to modernize India’s highway infrastructure through digital services. By enabling eligible residents to purchase local toll passes online and offering a multilingual AI-powered support platform, the initiative reduces paperwork, minimizes visits to toll plazas, and makes essential highway services more accessible.

As the Digital Local Pass expands beyond its initial rollout in Delhi, more commuters are expected to benefit from faster toll pass approvals and seamless access to FASTag, grievance, and travel-related services. Together with RajmargYatra’s existing features, these additions strengthen the government’s vision of creating a smarter, more efficient, and user-friendly National Highway ecosystem.
