Expanding her entrepreneurial portfolio into India’s booming athleisure sector, actor-producer Anushka Sharma has officially acquired a minority stake in homegrown sportswear and footwear platform Agilitas Sports.

The capital investment adds fresh celebrity equity to the fast-growing startup, which was founded in 2023 by former Puma India executives Abhishek Ganguly, Atul Bajaj, and Amit Prabhu. While the specific financial parameters of the transaction remain undisclosed, the partnership is designed as a strategic brand-building play.

Sharma will work directly alongside the company’s design teams to co-develop and launch a specialized yoga-wear and wellness apparel category under the One8 franchise brand.

Doubling Down on the One8 Ecosystem

Sharma’s entry into the company significantly strengthens her family’s structural ties to the sports and fitness venture:

  • The Existing Partner: Her husband, cricket icon Virat Kohli, joined Agilitas Sports last year as a core co-investor and business partner after concluding his historic, ₹110-crore partnership with German sportswear giant Puma.
  • The Brand Ingestion: As part of Kohli’s ₹40 crore investment cycle last year, Agilitas completely acquired the rights to One8, Kohli’s personal lifestyle and sportswear brand, to house it under their vertically integrated operations.
  • The Portfolio Shift: With Sharma now joining the investor cap table, Agilitas is actively leveraging the couple’s combined influence to transition One8 from a pure-play, male-centric performance brand into a comprehensive, family-wide lifestyle and wellness ecosystem.

Tapping Into India’s High-Margin Athleisure Shift

Confirming the corporate alliance, Agilitas Sports co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Abhishek Ganguly stated, “Anushka is partnering with Agilitas by investing capital in the company and building yoga-wear”.

The tactical focus on premium women’s activewear and functional yoga apparel addresses a massive white space in the domestic retail landscape. While the sportswear market in India has historically been dominated by heavy international footwear brands tracking cricket and running categories, urban consumer demand has sharply pivoted toward stylish, multi-functional athleisure and comfort garments.

By building out a distinct yoga line curated by Sharma, Agilitas is positioning itself to challenge premium international activewear players.

The startup’s greatest competitive asset remains its vertically integrated business architecture, which spans raw manufacturing, design prototyping, and direct-to-consumer digital and retail distribution channels. This internal ecosystem gives the company the unique operational agility to rapidly manufacture, test, and scale Sharma’s upcoming designs in real-time, matching the fast-evolving taste of India’s health-conscious consumers.
