Google has rolled out a new feature called Storybook within its Gemini app, enabling users to generate personalized, illustrated 10‑page storybooks with audio narration. Users simply describe a story they envision or upload files—like a child’s drawing or vacation photo—and Gemini creates a custom book in minutes.
Available globally on both desktop and mobile platforms, Storybook supports more than 45 languages and a wide variety of visual styles such as pixel art, comics, claymation, crochet, and coloring books
To use it, navigate to Gemini’s menu under “Gems” and select “Storybook.” If the option isn’t visible, users can first tap “Explore Gems” to find it. Input a prompt like “Create a storybook about a shy dinosaur who learns to dance,” optionally upload files, and hit submit. Gemini will deliver the full storybook in about 1–2 minutes.
One unique aspect of Storybook is the ability to upload images—such as children’s doodles—which Gemini uses creatively as inspiration for the story and accompanying illustrations. For example, uploading a child’s drawing may result in an adventure narrative centered on that artwork.
A key feature is the audio narration, allowing users to have the story read aloud by Gemini with selectable higher- or lower-pitched voices. The resulting storybooks can be downloaded, printed, or shared via a link.
While most users experienced smooth storytelling, some noted quirks in illustrations—like fish with human arms or misplaced objects—highlighting subtle imperfections typical of early-stage AI imagery.
Google positions Storybook not only as a fun bedtime tool for families but also as an educational asset. It can help teach children about values, science, or life changes—such as explaining a move to a new city—through engaging storytelling.
In summary, the Storybook feature offers:
- Personalized 10‑page storybooks with art and narration
- Input via simple prompt or uploaded content (photos, drawings, documents)
- Multiple art styles and support for 45+ languages
- Options to listen, share, download, or print
