xAI release $10 ‘SuperGrok Lite’ plan

0

Expanding its reach to budget-conscious creators, xAI has officially launched SuperGrok Lite, a new entry-level subscription tier priced at $10 per month (approx. ₹830). The plan is designed to bridge the gap between the free tier and the more advanced $30 “Standard” subscription.

The launch follows Elon Musk’s recent teaser that xAI is “doubling down” on its creative suite, positioning SuperGrok Lite as a tool for casual users and social media experimenters.

1. Key Features of SuperGrok Lite

While it is the most affordable paid tier, the “Lite” plan comes with specific usage caps and quality restrictions compared to higher tiers.

  • Model Access: Users get access to Grok 3.5, a high-speed model optimized for conversational efficiency.
  • Basic Video Generation: Supports AI video creation with a maximum resolution of 480p and a duration of up to 6 seconds.
  • Base-Level Images: Includes access to “Grok Imagine” for image generation, though with stricter daily usage limits than the Standard plan.
  • Extended Conversations: Offers chat sessions that are 2x longer than the free tier before hitting context limits.
  • AI Agent: Includes access to one AI agent, allowing users to test basic autonomous task-handling and research automation.

2. The New xAI Subscription Hierarchy

With this addition, xAI now offers a four-tier structure for individual and professional users.

3. Strategic Context: The Fight for “Lite” Users

The launch of SuperGrok Lite is a direct competitive response to the “efficiency models” from rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic.

  • Aggressive Pricing: At $10, xAI is undercutting the standard $20 price point of ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, targeting users who want premium features without the $20–$30 commitment.
  • Compute Optimization: By restricting video to 480p, xAI can offer generative features to a massive user base without overwhelming the Colossus 2 supercluster, which is currently busy training the upcoming Grok 5 (expected Q2 2026).
  • X Integration: The plan is expected to be bundled or integrated into a revised X Premium offering next week, further tightening the link between Musk’s social platform and his AI laboratory.

4. Availability

  • Status: Currently in Public Beta for selected users in the U.S. and India.
  • Full Rollout: Expected to be available to all global users by the end of next week.
  • Platform: Accessible via the standalone Grok App, X (formerly Twitter), and the grok.com web portal.

“SuperGrok Lite is about making intelligence affordable,” Musk shared in a post on X. “Not everyone needs a 16-agent reasoning system, but everyone can use a helpful AI sidekick for ten bucks.”
