Adani to invest $100B in data centres by 2035

0

In what is being described as one of the world’s largest integrated energy-and-compute commitments, the Adani Group announced a direct investment of $100 billion on February 17, 2026, to develop renewable-energy-powered, hyperscale AI-ready data centres across India by 2035.

The announcement, made during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, positions the conglomerate at the heart of India’s “Sovereign AI” ambitions, linking the group’s massive green energy portfolio directly to high-density AI compute.

The $250 Billion “Intelligence Ecosystem”

While the direct investment from Adani is $100 billion, the group projects that this move will catalyze a broader economic ripple effect totaling $250 billion over the next decade.

Investment TierAmountFocus Areas
Direct Investment$100 BillionHyperscale data centres, green energy integration, and 5 GW capacity.
Catalyzed Growth$150 BillionServer manufacturing, sovereign cloud platforms, and advanced electrical infrastructure.
Total Ecosystem$250 BillionIndia’s “Sovereign AI” backbone and global intelligence export.

Key Pillars of the 2035 Roadmap

The strategy moves away from traditional data centre models toward a unified architecture where power and processing are developed in parallel.

  1. Scaling to 5 GW: Building on the existing AdaniConneX platform (currently 2 GW), the group aims to reach a 5 GW target, making it one of the largest integrated data centre platforms globally.
  2. Green Energy Backbone: The facilities will be powered by Adani Green Energy, specifically utilizing the 30 GW Khavda project—the world’s largest renewable energy park.
  3. Strategic Partnerships:
    • Google: A gigawatt-scale AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam.
    • Microsoft: Collaborative campuses across Hyderabad, Pune, and Noida.
    • Flipkart: Development of a second high-performance AI data centre to support next-gen digital commerce.
  4. Domestic Manufacturing: Co-investing in the manufacturing of critical components like high-capacity transformers and liquid cooling systems to ensure a self-reliant supply chain.

Strategic Vision: “Builders, Not Just Consumers”

Speaking at the summit, Chairman Gautam Adani emphasized that the “Intelligence Revolution” is more profound than any previous Industrial Revolution.

“Nations that master the symmetry between energy and compute will shape the next decade. India is uniquely positioned to lead… India will not be a mere consumer in the AI age. We will be the creators, the builders, and the exporters of intelligence.” — Gautam Adani
