WhatsApp is preparing to launch a significant security update that will finally allow users to monitor linked device activity in real-time.
Currently, you have to manually open the “Linked Devices” menu to see which laptops or tablets are connected to your account. According to reports from April 14, 2026, the new feature—dubbed “Activity for Linked Devices”—will make this process passive and automated.
1. Real-Time Activity Monitoring
The core of this update is a live visibility system. Instead of just showing you a list of logged-in sessions, WhatsApp will now indicate which specific device is currently “Online” or “Active.”
- Simultaneous Notifications: If you are using WhatsApp on your primary phone and a linked device (like a laptop) becomes active at the same time, you will receive an instant notification on your phone.
- Unauthorized Access Detection: This is specifically designed to catch “snooping.” For example, if you leave your office computer on and someone starts reading your chats while you’re on the way home, your phone will alert you immediately.
- Secondary-Only Use: To avoid “notification fatigue,” the system will likely not ping you if you are only using the linked device and your phone is idle.
2. “Chat Lock” for Linked Devices
