WhatsApp Tests New “Remind Me” Feature

0

WhatsApp is rolling out a brand-new “Remind Me” feature for Android beta users, designed to help users schedule reminders for specific messages. The WhatsApp Remind Me feature ensures that you never forget to reply to an important message again — directly within the app.

Currently available in version 2.25.21.14 of the Android beta, this feature promises to make WhatsApp not just a communication tool, but also a smart reminder assistant.

How the WhatsApp Remind Me Feature Works

The WhatsApp Remind Me feature is simple to use:

  1. Long-press any message.
  2. Tap the new bell icon or select “Remind Me” from the pop-up menu.
  3. Choose a preset time (2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours) or set a custom reminder.

When the time arrives, a notification will pop up showing the original message, sender’s name, and media (if any). A small bell icon appears next to the message, indicating a reminder is set.

This feature works with all types of messages — texts, images, GIFs, voice notes, and even forwarded content.

Private and Localized Notifications

The reminder is completely private. Only the user who sets it will see it. The reminders are stored locally on the device and are not shared or synced across devices. This ensures privacy while enhancing productivity.

Why the WhatsApp Remind Me Feature Matters

The new WhatsApp Remind Me feature brings several advantages:

  • Helps users stay organized during busy conversations.
  • Offers a better alternative to message starring or pinning.
  • Useful for personal note-taking or message-yourself chats.
  • Keeps track of important messages without needing third-party apps.

For instance, if you receive a payment reminder, event link, or meeting detail, you can schedule a reminder right away — no need to set external alarms or note it down elsewhere.

Currently in Beta – Public Release Coming Soon?

Right now, the WhatsApp Remind Me feature is limited to Android beta testers only. There is no official word on when it will launch for all users, or when it will reach iOS via TestFlight. However, given the wide utility of this tool, experts predict a full rollout could happen in the coming months.

WhatsApp is also reportedly testing automatic follow-up reminders for unread messages from frequently contacted users — further boosting the app’s productivity tools.
