Bengaluru-based AI startup Sarvam AI quietly released its consumer-facing AI assistant app, Indus, on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The launch follows Sarvam’s major unveiling of its foundational models (Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B) earlier this week at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Key Features of the Indus App
The app is positioned as a homegrown, “India-first” rival to global chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini, with a deep focus on linguistic flexibility.
- Multilingual “Code-Switching”: Users can chat in any Indian language and switch seamlessly mid-conversation (e.g., starting in English and finishing in Hindi) without the AI losing context.
- Voice-First Design: It includes a robust voice command system designed to understand varied Indian accents and colloquialisms.
- Document & Image Analysis: Users can upload PDFs, images, and other documents. The AI can then analyze the content and answer complex questions based on the file.
- AI Agents: The app listing hints at “Agentic” capabilities, suggesting users will soon be able to automate tasks rather than just get text responses.
- Sovereign Research: Unlike some models that only have general knowledge, Indus can perform “deep research” specifically tailored to Indian contexts and web sources.
Access & Availability
While the app is live for download, Sarvam is managing the initial rollout through a waitlist system.
| Platform | Access Status |
| Android (Play Store) | Available (Waitlist) |
| iOS (App Store) | Available (Waitlist) |
| Web (indus.sarvam.ai) | Live (Waitlist) |
| Invite Codes | Users with an invite code from the India AI Impact Summit can bypass the queue. |
Why “Indus”?
The name is part of Sarvam’s broader tribute to Indian scientific and historical heritage. While the models are named “Vikram” (after Vikram Sarabhai), the consumer app takes the name “Indus,” representing the foundational river system and civilization of the region.
“Indus is more than just a chatbot; it’s a workspace companion that speaks the way Indians actually talk—fluidly across multiple languages.” — Sarvam App Listing.
