JioHotstar and OpenAI announced a landmark strategic partnership at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. This collaboration introduces a first-of-its-kind, ChatGPT-powered conversational interface designed to solve the “what to watch” dilemma for India’s massive streaming audience.

The partnership represents a “two-way integration” that embeds OpenAI’s reasoning directly into the streaming app while surfacing JioHotstar content inside ChatGPT itself.


Key Pillars of the Integration

The tie-up moves beyond traditional keyword search into Multilingual Cognitive Search, allowing for human-like interaction with a library of over 300,000 hours of content.

  • Intent-Based Voice Discovery: Instead of scrolling menus, users can speak their intent, mood, or context. For example, a user can say, “My parents are visiting, suggest something we can all watch together,” or “Find me comedies from the 90s that aren’t about weddings.”
  • Live Sports Engagement: The ChatGPT-branded assistant extends to live sports, allowing viewers to conversationally ask for match updates, key highlights, or player statistics in real-time during an ongoing broadcast.
  • Deep Personalization: The system interprets cultural nuances and “layered prompts,” providing context-aware recommendations that go beyond what a user might explicitly search for.
