In a major update to Google Workspace, Gemini can now autonomously generate, format, and export complete Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides directly from a single natural language prompt.
As of Thursday, April 30, 2026, this feature is rolling out to all Gemini Advanced and Google Workspace Enterprise subscribers, eliminating the need to manually copy-paste AI responses into individual productivity apps.
1. Unified Generation Workflow
The new “Create File” button appears instantly at the bottom of Gemini’s responses when the model detects a request for structured content.
- Google Docs: Gemini can draft multi-page reports, legal contracts, or creative manuscripts. It automatically applies hierarchical headings (
H1,H2), inserts tables of contents, and applies professional typography based on the prompt’s intent. - Google Sheets: When asked to organize data (e.g., “Create a budget tracker for a 10-person marketing team”), Gemini generates a fully functional spreadsheet. This includes pre-filled formulas, conditional formatting, and structured data tables.
- Google Slides: For presentations, Gemini generates a complete deck, including slide titles, bullet points, and speaker notes. It also utilizes Imagen 3 to generate relevant background imagery for each slide.
2. Key Productivity Features
This update transforms Gemini from a conversational assistant into an active “document architect.”
