Claude add ‘Cloud Scheduling’ feature

In a major step toward becoming a fully autonomous “AI employee,” Anthropic officially rolled out Claude Cloud Scheduling on March 20, 2026. The new feature allows Claude Pro, Team, and Enterprise users to move beyond manual “chatting” and instead schedule prompts to run at specific times, recurring intervals, or in response to external digital triggers.

Moving Beyond the “Send” Button

Cloud Scheduling transforms Claude from a reactive chatbot into a proactive assistant. Instead of you remembering to ask for a summary every Monday, Claude now “wakes up” and does it for you.

  • Timed Executions: Set a one-time prompt for the future (e.g., “At 9 AM tomorrow, check the latest stock prices for SMCI and draft an email”).
  • Recurring Workflows: Schedule daily, weekly, or monthly tasks. This is ideal for generating “Morning Briefings” or “Friday Retro” reports based on your uploaded project files.
  • Smart Buffering: To avoid hitting rate limits, scheduled tasks are placed in a “Cloud Queue” and executed as soon as compute capacity is available within a 5-minute window of your target time.

The “Calendar & Webhook” Integration

The most powerful aspect of Cloud Scheduling is its ability to “listen” to your other apps.

  1. Google Calendar Sync: Claude can now “read” your calendar. If you have a meeting titled “Project Alpha Sync,” you can schedule a prompt to trigger 10 minutes before the meeting: “Search my recent chats for ‘Project Alpha’ and give me a 3-bullet point refresher.”
  2. Webhook Triggers: For developers, Anthropic has opened a Scheduling API. You can now trigger a Claude task via a webhook from tools like GitHub, Jira, or Slack.
  3. Email Delivery: Once a scheduled task is complete, Claude can automatically email the result to you or post it directly into a specific Slack channel.

Pricing & Quota

To manage the high compute demand of background tasks, Anthropic has introduced a “Scheduling Token” system.

  • Claude Pro: 5 active scheduled tasks at any time.
  • Claude Team: 25 active tasks per seat.
  • Claude Enterprise: Unlimited tasks with dedicated “Priority Lanes” for high-volume automation.
  • Cost: Each scheduled run consumes your standard message quota. If you run out of messages, the scheduled task will “pause” and notify you via email.

The “Agentic” Future

The launch of Cloud Scheduling is a direct response to OpenAI’s “Operator” and Google’s “Project Astra” automation features. By allowing Claude to run in the background, Anthropic is positioning the AI as a persistent background worker rather than just a tab in your browser.

“The goal is to move from ‘AI as a tool’ to ‘AI as a teammate’,” an Anthropic product lead stated. “A teammate doesn’t wait for you to tell them to do the Monday report; they just do it. That’s what Cloud Scheduling enables.”
