State-owned telecom operator BSNL is gearing up to launch its own UPI-enabled payment service, dubbed BSNL Pay, seamlessly integrated within the existing Selfcare app. This new feature will empower users to conduct a wide range of digital transactions—from mobile recharges to bill payments and fund transfers—without needing a separate app.
BSNL has hinted that the service will be powered by BHIM UPI, ensuring the same level of security, convenience, and interoperability offered by popular apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm.Though an exact launch date hasn’t been confirmed, reports suggest BSNL Pay could go live by Diwali 2025.
Previously, users relied on third-party UPI apps or the BSNL payment portal via Federal Bank to pay bills and recharges. The integration of UPI directly into the Selfcare app marks a significant evolution in BSNL’s digital service offerings.
Why This Matters
| Benefit | Insight |
|---|---|
| Convenience | Users can perform payments directly within BSNL’s Selfcare app—no more switching between apps. |
| Competitive Position | BSNL Pay positions the telecom PSU as a direct challenger to established UPI platforms like PhonePe, GPay, and Paytm. |
| User Trust & Security | Leveraging BHIM UPI assures secure and trusted transactions under the NPCI-backed framework. |
