Apple to showcase dedicated Siri app at WWDC 2026

In what is being described as the most significant overhaul of the assistant since its 2011 debut, Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a dedicated Siri app at WWDC 2026 (June 8–12).

According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and other supply chain sources on March 24, the new standalone app—internally codenamed “Campo”—will pivot Siri from a reactive voice overlay into a full-blown AI chatbot designed to compete directly with ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini.

1. The Standalone Siri App: “Campo”

For years, Apple resisted a “chat box” interface for Siri, but the rapid adoption of agentic AI has forced a strategy shift. The new app will serve as the central hub for Apple’s next-generation AI, powered by a combination of Apple’s in-house “Veritas” models and Google’s Gemini infrastructure.

Key Features of the Siri App:

  • Conversational Interface: The app will feature a familiar chat-bubble design, similar to iMessage, supporting both text and voice-based dialogues with a persistent history of past conversations.
  • “Ask Siri” Mode: A new system-wide feature that allows users to trigger conversational voice modes (similar to Gemini Live) or ask questions about on-screen content in real-time.
  • Advanced Summarization: Users can upload documents or share long-form articles directly to the Siri app for instant analysis, summaries, or cross-referencing with personal data like emails and notes.
  • Dynamic Island Integration: While the app provides a full-screen workspace, quick interactions will reside in the Dynamic Island, featuring a new “pill-shaped” searching indicator and a glowing Siri icon.

2. Siri as a “System-Wide Agent”

Beyond just a chatbot, the iOS 27 and macOS 27 version of Siri is being rebuilt as an autonomous agent.

  • In-App Actions: Leveraging an expanded App Intents framework (and the new CoreAI framework replacing CoreML), Siri will be able to perform complex tasks inside third-party apps, such as “Find the invoice in my mail and add the total to my budget spreadsheet.”
  • On-Screen Awareness: Siri will finally be able to “see” what is on your screen, allowing for context-aware commands like “Tell me more about the person in this photo” or “Summarize this open PDF.”

3. WWDC 2026: What to Expect

While the Siri app is the “showstopper,” the rest of the conference is rumored to focus on stability and groundwork for future hardware.

FeaturePlatformExpectation
iOS 27iPhoneA “Snow Leopard” style release focused on performance and battery life.
macOS 27MacDropping Intel Support. This version will exclusively support Apple Silicon (M1 and newer).
“CoreAI”DevelopersA new framework to help developers integrate Siri’s agentic abilities into their apps.
iPhone FoldHardwareSoftware groundwork (multi-window support) for the foldable iPhone expected in late 2026.

The “Veritas” vs. “Gemini” Balance

Apple is walking a tightrope between its privacy-first branding and the need for powerful cloud-based AI.

  1. On-Device (Veritas): Handles sensitive personal data (emails, messages, health) locally.
  2. Cloud (Gemini 3): Powers complex web searches and creative generation via a “privacy-shielded” tunnel to Google’s servers.

“The goal is to turn Siri into a systemwide AI agent with deep integration across all applications,” noted Gurman. “It’s no longer just an assistant; it’s the core interface of the OS.”
