OpenAI Enables Local Data Storage in India
OpenAI has introduced data residency options in India and other Asian countries, including Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. This means that data from Indian users of ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and the OpenAI API will now be stored locally.

The local data storage initiative is designed to help organizations comply with India’s data sovereignty requirements. By storing data within the country, OpenAI ensures that conversations, user prompts, uploaded files, and other content shared with ChatGPT or custom GPTs by India-based Enterprise and Edu users remain within national borders.
🔧 How to Enable Data Residency
Eligible API customers can enable data residency by accessing the API Platform dashboard, creating a new project, and selecting the preferred country. For ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users, new workspaces can be set up to store customer content at rest in the region.
