Temple, the deep-tech health wearable startup founded by Eternal (Zomato) co-founder Deepinder Goyal, has formalized strategic manufacturing partnerships with Zetwerk and Ethereal Machines to ramp up production of its brain-monitoring device.
Valued at roughly $190 million after securing a $54 million capital injection, Temple is transitioning out of low-volume prototyping and into mass manufacturing. The company recently shipped its initial batch of approximately 100 sample units to top athletes and scientists for beta testing and feedback.
1. The Multi-Tier Manufacturing Blueprint
To produce highly complex neuro-hardware at scale while maintaining rigorous clinical precision, Temple is employing a distributed hybrid manufacturing model:
- In-House Stewardship: Temple will continue to manage the core assembly, firmware flashing, and proprietary software integration internally to safeguard its intellectual property.
- Precision Sourcing (Ethereal Machines): Bengaluru-based Ethereal Machines will handle the highly advanced precision engineering, utilizing its specialized CNC machining systems to produce the intricate, high-performance sensors embedded inside the patch.
- Mass Scale-Up (Zetwerk): Global contract manufacturing major Zetwerk will step in as the primary supply chain catalyst, taking charge of large-scale component sourcing, electronic assembly (PCBA), and system integration to produce an initial commercial run of several thousand units.
2. The Tech: Monitoring the “Gravity Ageing Hypothesis”
Temple’s flagship device is a flat, forehead-mounted sensor patch worn near the user’s temple. It goes significantly beyond standard consumer fitness trackers by continuously tracking real-time cerebral blood flow and oxygenation metrics.
The hardware’s baseline purpose is built around validating Goyal’s Gravity Ageing Hypothesis. The theory suggests that over a biological lifetime, gravity progressively compromises upward blood circulation toward the head, restricting cerebral blood flow and accelerating cognitive decline. Temple is engineered to continuously measure these subtle circulation shifts, aiming to establish performance optimization metrics for elite athletes, alongside long-term preventive screening applications for neurological health.
3. Investor Synergy & Global Ambitions
The manufacturing alliance was heavily streamlined by a unique overlap of prominent venture capital backers. All three companies share a tightly interlocked investor ecosystem:
- Peak XV Partners holds prominent equity stakes across Temple, Zetwerk, and Ethereal Machines.
- Steadview Capital maintains backing in both Temple and Ethereal Machines, while several of Zetwerk’s co-founders are active angel investors in Ethereal.
The initial manufacturing push is explicitly structured to support international regulatory filings. Temple plans to leverage Zetwerk’s global logistics framework to orchestrate a high-profile commercial launch in the United States market later this year, positioning the device directly inside the global wearable healthcare market, which is projected to surpass $75 billion by 2030.
