Euler Motors founder’s stake falls below 5%

In a significant shift for the Indian commercial EV landscape, Saurav Kumar, the founder and CEO of Euler Motors, has seen his ownership stake drop to 3.66% following a major Series E funding round in late March 2026.

This dilution highlights a growing trend among Indian startups where aggressive fundraising for capital-intensive manufacturing leads to founders holding single-digit stakes while professional investors and strategic partners take the lead.

The Series E Funding Breakdown

The Delhi-based EV maker raised a total of ₹687.5 crore (approx. $73 million) in a combined equity and debt round aimed at scaling manufacturing and expanding its service network.

  • Equity Infusion: ₹437.5 crore ($47 million) led by new investor Lightrock.
  • Debt Financing: ₹250 crore from a consortium of venture debt firms including BlackSoil, Trifecta Capital, InnoVen Capital, and Alteria Capital.
  • Valuation: Despite the fresh capital, the company’s valuation remained “flat” at approximately ₹2,137 crore ($230 million), reflecting the cautious sentiment in mid-2026 venture markets.

New Shareholding Structure (Post-Allotment)

The latest round has cemented Hero MotoCorp as the dominant force within Euler Motors. The legacy two-wheeler giant has used successive tranches to secure a near-controlling interest in the startup.

ShareholderStake (%)
Hero MotoCorp36.67%
Lightrock (New Lead)10.53%
Blume Ventures5.90%
Saurav Kumar (Founder)3.66%
ESOP/MSOP Pool5.14%

Why the Dilution?

  1. High Capital Intensity: Manufacturing electric cargo vehicles (like the HiLoad) requires massive upfront investment in R&D and factory scaling, forcing multiple rounds of equity dilution.
  2. Financial Pressure: While Euler Motors saw a 12% revenue increase to ₹192.26 crore in FY25, it continued to report heavy losses of roughly ₹200 crore.
  3. The “Hero” Strategy: Hero MotoCorp’s board recently approved an additional ₹275 crore investment. By acquiring stakes from secondary markets and leading primary infusions, Hero is effectively integrating Euler as its commercial EV arm.

What’s Next for Euler Motors?

Despite the low founder stake, Saurav Kumar remains at the helm as CEO. The fresh funds are earmarked for:

  • Capacity Expansion: Increasing production of its 1-tonne electric mini-truck.
  • National Reach: Expanding from 100 touchpoints to a pan-India sales and service network.
  • Intercity Logistics: Moving beyond “last-mile” delivery into higher-payload vehicles for inter-city transport.
