UP govt signs deal with Walmart for Export scheme

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Walmart to strengthen the state’s export ecosystem and digitally empower MSMEs. The agreement falls under the Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development Programme, aimed at enabling small businesses to expand into national and global markets through e-commerce.

The partnership is non-financial in nature but focuses on structured training, mentoring, and export readiness for enterprises across Uttar Pradesh.

Focus on MSME Export Growth

The collaboration aligns with the state’s Export Promotion Policy 2025–30, which emphasizes e-commerce-led export expansion. MSMEs will receive support in:

  • Digital onboarding and marketplace integration
  • International quality standards and certifications
  • Packaging and branding improvements
  • Cross-border compliance guidance
  • Market access and logistics planning

This initiative is expected to significantly reduce entry barriers for small manufacturers and artisans looking to scale globally.

Incentives for First-Time Exporters

To encourage new exporters, the state government will provide a one-time incentive covering up to 75% of platform listing fees, capped at ₹3 lakh. This financial support aims to make global e-commerce platforms more accessible to local businesses.

Officials believe this move will particularly benefit startups, women entrepreneurs, and rural MSMEs seeking international buyers.

Digital Commerce as Growth Driver

With global trade increasingly shifting online, the UP–Walmart partnership positions MSMEs to tap into international demand through digital channels. By combining Walmart’s global retail expertise with Uttar Pradesh’s manufacturing base, the initiative seeks to integrate local businesses into global value chains.

The programme is also expected to generate employment opportunities, enhance export competitiveness, and contribute to the state’s broader economic development goals.
