The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) education into the national curriculum across all government schools, starting from the 2025–2026 academic year. This move aims to equip students, beginning as young as four years old, with essential AI knowledge and skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.


📘 AI Education Across All Grades

The UAE Cabinet has approved the introduction of AI as a formal subject in all government schools, spanning from kindergarten through Grade 12. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it is part of the UAE’s long-term plans to prepare future generations with advanced skills for a different future.


🧠 Curriculum Highlights

The AI curriculum will cover seven key areas:

  1. Foundational Concepts: Introducing basic AI principles and understanding.
  2. Data and Algorithms: Teaching how data is used and processed in AI systems.
  3. Software Applications: Exploring various AI tools and platforms.
  4. Ethical Awareness: Discussing the ethical implications and responsibilities associated with AI.
  5. Real-World Applications: Demonstrating how AI is applied in different industries.
  6. Innovation and Project Design: Encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving using AI.
  7. Policy and Community Engagement: Understanding the societal impact and governance of AI technologies.

The curriculum is designed to be age-appropriate, with content tailored to different educational stages. For instance, younger students will engage with AI concepts through interactive activities and storytelling, while older students will delve into more complex topics like algorithmic bias and real-world simulations. 👩‍🏫 Implementation and Teacher Training

To ensure effective delivery of the AI curriculum, the Ministry of Education will provide comprehensive training for teachers. Designated educators will teach the new subject as part of the existing Computing, Creative Design, and Innovation courses. The integration is planned to occur within the current school schedules, eliminating the need for additional class time.


🌍 Strategic Partnerships and National Vision

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to become a global leader in AI and digital transformation. Collaborations with institutions like the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and technology companies aim to support the development and implementation of the curriculum.

By embedding AI education into the national curriculum, the UAE seeks to cultivate a generation of innovators and thinkers capable of contributing to the nation’s sustainable development and technological advancement.
