Swiggy shut down 15-min food delivery app Snacc

wiggy officially decided to shut down Snacc, its standalone pilot app for 10–15 minute food delivery. The decision, communicated through an internal email, marks the end of Swiggy’s experiment with ultra-fast food delivery after just over a year of operation.

The move signals a broader shift in the Indian quick-commerce sector, where companies are moving away from “speed-at-any-cost” toward more sustainable unit economics.

Why Snacc was Discontinued

Despite being an operationally impressive feat—launched in just 16 days back in January 2025—the app struggled with the harsh realities of food delivery margins.

  • Poor Economics: An internal email noted that while “product-market fit was emerging,” the broader economics made it “challenging to scale.” Unlike packaged groceries, fresh food delivery at 15-minute speeds involves higher operational complexity and waste management.
  • Widening Losses: Swiggy’s “Platform Innovations” segment, which housed Snacc, saw its revenue plummet 59% to ₹9 crore in Q3 FY26, with segment losses quadrupling to ₹40 crore.
  • Strategic Consolidation: Swiggy is focusing its resources on its core food delivery business (which grew 20.5% YoY) and its primary quick-commerce engine, Instamart.
  • Limited Reach: The app remained confined to select pockets of Bengaluru, Gurugram, and Noida, never seeing a nationwide rollout.

Impact on Employees and Operations

Swiggy has clarified that this is a vertical-level correction rather than a broader layoff.

  • Internal Absorption: Impacted employees from the Snacc corporate team and cloud kitchen staff are being integrated into other business verticals, such as Instamart pods.
  • App Status: Snacc has already been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users opening the app are now met with an “Oops! We are down right now” message.

Remaining Experiments: Bolt & Toing

While Snacc is gone, Swiggy is not exiting fast delivery entirely. It is simply moving those efforts back into its main ecosystem:

  • Bolt: Swiggy’s 10-minute delivery service for select restaurant items within the main app continues to operate.
  • Toing: A standalone, budget-focused food delivery app (currently piloted in Pune) remains active.
  • 99 Store: A value-focused offering for budget meals remains a key focus for the company.

Quick Commerce Market Context (Feb 2026)

Swiggy’s pullback mirrors similar moves by rivals:

  • Zomato previously paused its “Quick” 15-minute service.
  • Zepto Cafe recently restructured, shutting nearly 200 of its 600 outlets.
  • Blinkit’s Bistro reportedly lost ₹150 crore against sales of less than ₹20 crore over a nine-month period, highlighting the sector’s cost challenges.
