NHAI hike FASTag annual pass fee

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced a price revision for its FASTag Annual Pass. The fee is set to increase from the current ₹3,000 to ₹3,075, effective from April 1, 2026.

The ₹75 hike (roughly 2.5%) is being implemented for the 2026–27 financial year in accordance with the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, which allow for annual adjustments based on inflation.

FASTag Annual Pass: Key Details

The annual pass, which was launched on August 15, 2025, has already gained over 56 lakh users (about 28% of all private car transactions).

FeatureDetails
New Price₹3,075 (Starting April 1, 2026)
Old Price₹3,000
ValidityOne Year or 200 Toll Crossings, whichever comes first.
Eligible VehiclesNon-commercial private vehicles (Cars, Jeeps, Vans) only.
Network CoverageValid at approximately 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and Expressways.
Activation TimeTypically activated on your existing tag within 2 hours of payment.

How to Purchase/Renew

If you wish to lock in the current ₹3,000 rate before April 1, you can do so through:

  • Rajmarg Yatra App: The official NHAI mobile application.
  • NHAI Website: Log in using your vehicle number and FASTag ID.

Important Limitations

  1. Non-Transferable: The pass is linked to a specific vehicle and cannot be moved to another tag or car.
  2. State Tolls: The pass is not valid at state-managed toll plazas, parking lots, or state highways. In these locations, your FASTag will function as a regular tag, and standard per-trip charges will be deducted from your wallet balance.
  3. Automatic Revert: Once you hit 200 trips or the year ends, your tag automatically reverts to a standard “pay-per-trip” model until you purchase a new pass.

New FASTag Rules (Effective February 2026)

In addition to the fee hike, several other rules were implemented last month to simplify usage:

  • No Routine KYV: For most private vehicles, the “Know Your Vehicle” (KYV) process is no longer required after activation.
  • VAHAN Verification: New tags are now verified against the VAHAN database before activation to prevent incorrect issuance.
  • Digital Penalty Change: If you don’t have a valid FASTag but pay via UPI at a toll plaza, you are now charged 1.25x the toll amount (instead of the 2x penalty for cash).
