Meta add games to Ray-Ban glasses

Meta officially introduced the first wave of “ambient games” to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses (specifically the Ray-Ban Display model).

This update marks a major shift in how the glasses are usedโ€”moving them beyond a tool for photography and AI assistance into a lightweight gaming platform for “in-between moments” like waiting in line or commuting.

The First Two Games

Meta launched two titles optimized for a head-up display (HUD) and hands-free interaction:

  1. GOAT: A vibrant platformer where you control a small animal jumping across floating and moving platforms.
  2. 2048: A classic number-puzzle game where you swipe to combine blocks and reach the 2048 tile.

How to Play: The “Neural” Interface

The standout feature of these games is that they require no controllers and no touch on the glasses themselves. Instead, they rely on the EMG Meta Neural Band.

  • EMG Technology: The neural wristband senses micro-gestures made by your thumb and fingers by detecting muscle movements (Electromyography).
  • Gestures: In GOAT, a thumb movement triggers a jump. In 2048, simple hand swipes shift the number blocks on your display.
  • The Goal: Meta’s developer advocate, Dilmer, described the experience as “frictionless” and “magical,” designed to feel layered into your day rather than requiring a dedicated gaming setup.

System Requirements

  • Hardware: These games are currently exclusive to the Ray-Ban Display variant (the model equipped with the monocular lens display in the right eye).
  • Accessory: You must be wearing the EMG Meta Neural Band to control the games.
  • Update: Users can access the games by simply updating their glasses through the Meta View (or Meta AI) companion app.

Future Outlook

Meta has indicated that this is just the beginning for wearable gaming. At CES 2026, the company demonstrated a “Unified Cabin” concept where passengers could play more complex games using similar gesture-based controls. Analysts believe this “lightweight gaming” is a precursor to the full AR gaming experience expected with Meta’s upcoming Artemis glasses in 2027.
