India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has announced that it will provide ₹10,000 travel vouchers to passengers who were “severely impacted” by widespread flight disruptions earlier this month. The vouchers will be valid for any future IndiGo journey over the next 12 months.
Who Qualifies for the Voucher?
IndiGo said the vouchers will be issued to flyers whose travel plans were substantially affected by operational chaos between December 3 and December 5 — when a major crew shortage and airline disruption left many passengers stranded at airports for hours.
Additional Compensation Still Applies
The airline clarified that the ₹10,000 voucher is in addition to government-mandated compensation (₹5,000–₹10,000) for flights cancelled within 24 hours of scheduled departure, as required under passenger charter rules.
How the Vouchers Work
- ✈️ Valid for 12 months: The voucher can be redeemed on future IndiGo flights booked within the next year.
- 💵 On top of refunds: IndiGo stated that refunds for cancelled flights have been initiated, with many already credited to passengers’ accounts.
Context: The Operational Disruption
Earlier in December, IndiGo faced one of the worst operational crises in its history, with thousands of flights cancelled due to inadequate planning around new pilot duty and rest regulations, leading to major travel disruptions nationwide. Wikipedia
The airline has since restored most of its flight schedule and is now taking steps to compensate affected passengers and stabilise operations. The Economic Times
