OpenAI is pivoting from treating Sora as just a social media tool to a core component of its multimodal assistant ecosystem.
- Unified Experience: Users will soon be able to generate and edit high-fidelity videos directly within their standard ChatGPT threads, similar to how DALL-E 3 handles images.
- Co-existence: The standalone Sora app will continue to operate for creators who prefer its social-first features, such as “remixing” other users’ clips and sharing to a public feed.
- Sora 2 Default: The integration will feature Sora 2, which debuted in late 2025 with significant leaps in physical world simulation (e.g., accurate fluid dynamics and complex human movement).
